Cooking Shows - 12 February, 2007

I have to admit to being a fan of The food Network. Who could have thought cooking shows could be fun but hey, they are... or at least some are..

What are your favorite cookings shows and why.

I am a HUGe fan of Good Eats whcih is hosted by THE MAN, Alton Brown. Not only is he a great cook, but he spends time explaining at a very deep level what is really going on with food as welll as the histories of foods complete with cool visual aids, animations and clever pop culture skits... It's Brilliant! It's a nerds delight and I Tivo it religiously!

Alton also hosts Iron Chef America which I enjoy greatly although not as much as Good Eats. I have started watching Ace of Cakes and am impressed although I have not yet committed to a season pass on my Tivo..

Good Eats is definitly the pish. I haven't watched Food Network in a while but I always used to watch Iron Chef America and some of Rachel Ray's shows, I like cooking but I don't like taking alot of time, so theorhetically I could make that stuff (but I never do).

Scorcho,

Some of the recipes that Alto Brown puts together can be a little involved, but the results are invariably AWESOME! I use his Ham recipe regularly during the holidays and this year I used his Turkey recommendations (brining and stuffing with aromatics) and it turned out an incredible bird! I also have some of his gear and love it (my Salt Cellar is the BEST!).

Rachal Ray is ok to watch although her voice grates on me a little.. she is cute though!

I too enjoy watching the Food Network. Good Eats, Iron Chef, those random cake-baking contests, sometimes Emeril, and other stuff... I like to watch while I'm doing other things -- like stuff on the computer or, of course, eating food.

Iron Chef America is terrible compared with original Japanese Iron Chef, now that is the shiz!
The new series has just started here, Hiroku Sakai is the best!

P0ss,

The original Iron Chef was the best but I have to admit that the new American version is finding it's legs. I like the fact that Alton Brown hosts and lends expert commentary but I can do without Mark Dacascos as The Chairman.. but he is better than William Shatner... *wincing*

I think what made the original show so great was how totally serious and over dramatic everyone was. I think that just looks cheesy when they try and replicate it on the American Version. they should let Mo Rocca host it and have Alton Brown do commentary and they would have a brilliant show!

BTW.. Just so I don't seem like I am slagging Mark Dacascos.. He ROCKED in Brotherhood of the Wolf!

FH,

Jamie oliver is really great! I haven't seen any of his shows in a while though! I have given his books as presents to some freinds and they love his stuff.

I also love Nigella Lawson! Ok I may be biased but she makes the most wonderful things! I have tried her recipe for Grilled Cheese sandwiches and it was to die for!
