ARG's-Alternate Reality Games - 15 February, 2007
Yue says
From the wikipedia article
"alternate reality game (ARG) is an interactive narrative that uses the real world as a platform, often involving multiple media and game elements, to tell a story that may be affected by participants' ideas or actions.

The form is typified by intense player involvement with a story that takes place in real-time and evolves according to participants' responses, and characters that are actively controlled by the game's designers, as opposed to being controlled by artificial intelligence as in a computer or console video game. Players interact directly with characters in the game, solve plot-based challenges and puzzles, and often work together with a community to analyze the story and coordinate real-life and online activities. ARGs generally use multiple media (such as telephones, email, and mail) but rely on the Internet as the central binding medium."

I want to hear thoughts/stories/participation, anything. As per usual for any of my topics I'll wait a bit before posting mine.

I followed ILOVEBEES.com as well as Perplex City for a while. I absolutly love the idea of a mob of people working to solve the next piece of the puzzle but I feel there are so many more people who either outclass me in processor speed or have a plethora of free time. I've never been one of the first people to solve a puzzle by the time I get to it someone has already posted the awnser to the puzzle on a message board. Being the one who makes the connection is most of the fun for me, but it's pretty hard to be the one if you have other things to do IME. Nine Inch Nails has one going on as we speak which has me excited- not so much for the ARG tho... There are a series of websites and typical ARG stuff going on. The cool thing about this one is that it is in tandum with the release of an expiremental album and what looks like an interesting fictional story to go along with it as well.
The first song I believe was just found on a thumb drive left in a public bathroom in Portugal.

Tofugorilla I've been following the NIN one, and i've never heard NIN. But I really like this ARG thing, and plan on getting into them more. I agree with you about being hard though. Some things i didn't even know were possible until I saw this one. I had actually forgotten about the ilovebees one.

Never heard NIN eh? Pretty early 90's industrial sound, new stuff is a little more melodic but pretty close to the original sound IMO.
