Digg's Next Feature - Ability to unbury stories
last update: August 03, 2006

Someone within the Digg community burried one of my articles. I was disappointed so I contacted Digg support and recieved the following reply. As it turns out, the next version of Digg will have a feature that will give the community the power to reinstate stories posted as lame, in accurate or dupplicate.

Me:

Hi, one of my articles recieved 48 Diggs but it was buried! It was submitted by a top digger hemphill81 and the URL is :

http://digg.com/tech_news/Analysis_of_the_Digg_Effect_and_Users

Could you please unbury the story, thanks

Digg Support Team:

That story was reported as lame and subsequently removed by the digg
community. We do not re-instate stories that are buried by the
community. That undermines the community's decisions. Please read our
FAQ (digg.com/faq) for more information.

Me:

This is obviously reported lame by a troll. If it was not worthy of Diggs, people would criticize it on the comments, or not Digg it to 48 diggs in the first few hours. Even, Chris, the person who submitted this story emailed me because he was disappointed such a nice analysis got buried!

"In a future release of digg, users will be able to view a queue of reported/buried stories and actually vote to reinstate them. Stay tuned! "

Digg Support Team:

Sorry, this is just a reality of giving moderation power to the users.
Sometimes good stories get buried and bad stories get promoted. Some
people love to hear about digg on digg, others don't. I'm not
suggesting that's why it was buried, we have no idea beyond how it was
reported. But this is just what makes digg different from our
competitors. However, we understand your concerns and frustrations. In
a future release of digg, users will be able to view a queue of
reported/buried stories and actually vote to reinstate them. Stay tuned!
